The Warren bridge, Iredell County

The story begins when a man by the name of Claude Warren reported his brother in law Homer Matheson for a liquor still on the creek and they started getting into fights then Claude reported Homer for business fraud because they had loaded cotton to be taken to the gin and weighed Homer then told his wife to load an anvil into the wagon so it weighed more. That made the fights worse until finally they met by a bridge and the fight turned deadly they started yelling at each other and making threats Mary Homer’s wife and Claude’s sister started yelling at both of them to stop finally Homer had enough and picked up his loaded shotgun and shot the back of Claude’s head. Homer confessed and was brought to justice. They say you can still hear Mary’s screams and sometimes can see the headless ghost of Claude.
